24 hoursMax 4ModerateFamily friendly

Before you book this one

Requires a medical questionnaire, and a doctor’s clearance if you answer yes to anything on it. DO NOT FLY FOR AT LEAST 18 HOURS after your final dives — build at least a full day into your schedule before your flight home. You must be able to swim 200 m unaided and float for 10 minutes.

Qualify as a diver, for life, on one of the best reefs in the Caribbean. Theory, confined-water skills and four open-water dives across three days, ending with a certification recognised worldwide.

What you do

  • Full PADI Open Water certification, valid for life
  • Four open-water dives on the barrier reef
  • Theory and confined-water skills included
  • Small classes with an English or Spanish instructor

As a private booking

Private instruction, which typically finishes the course faster and with far more water time.

Practical notes for San Andrés

  • You need a tourist card to fly here. Every visitor buys a Tarjeta de Turismo at the departure airport before boarding — Colombians included. Keep it; you need it to leave. Budget roughly US$30 and confirm the current price when you book.
  • This is Raizal land. The islands have their own Afro-Caribbean Raizal people, language and Baptist church tradition, distinct from mainland Colombia. Residency is legally restricted to protect it. Learn the difference — it is the most interesting thing about the place.
